Technology and progress go hand in hand in today’s world and those falling behind in catching up with technological developments will surely have a hard time showing any real progress in the future. Regardless of the type of it, ranging from space technologies such as a new communications satellite, home technologies such as an integrated security system or internet technologies such as a functional YouTube proxy, technology always helps people achieve more and live better. In an unforgiving modern age where business, social life and education all operate on the premises of speed and efficiency, living without technology is not a possibility. Shying away from researching into it is also quite idiotic, considering all the great opportunities one misses in the process with so many new products and services popping up daily.
3D printing is one of the novelties that the modern age is currently offering to its residents and it is a fascinating technology that makes it possible for its user to design a product and directly print it using the desired materials. In the Netherlands, the government is currently working with the Eindhoven University of Technology for a project titled ‘Project Milestone’ to print concrete houses for the country’s growing population. Having modern designs, the houses will be printed in a cheap, quick and environmental friendly way and will be provided at affordable rates to interested buyers. More than €650,000 have been spent on the project so far in technicalities and academic circles have already begun to praise the efforts, noting how this method will be more sustainable than traditional construction methods. The country seeks to build 700,000 new homes this way by 2025 to cost less than $5,000 each.
GSM technologies have been known to impact human lives directly and the recent 5G investments have been much anticipated by the general public thus far. Verizon has already begun its campaign to introduce the company’s new 5G system, ‘Verizon 5G Home’, to customers in Los Angeles, Sacramento, Houston and Indianapolis at the price of $50 for previous Verizon customers and $70 for new ones. Currently, the technology is only available for home use and Verizon is the only company providing it, which has granted the company a significant competitive advantage in the market. However, AT&T will be offering both home and cellular 5G services at the end of this year, meaning that Verizon’s comfortable position will soon be rivalled. In order to boost its sales, Verizon is offering free installation and three months of free service, along with free Chromecast or Apple TV 4K and three months of free YouTube TV subscription.
No other company is making the headlines more than Tesla these days and Elon Musk is simply the superstar of today’s tech world. The company’s struggles these days however is not solely about its publicity or products but also about its administration as Musk is caught between going private or keeping the company public. After having several meetings with the company’s financial advisors and shareholders, Musk decided to keep Tesla as a publically traded company. The reason? The company’s administration decided to continue enjoying the extra financial security the current model brings. In addition, public trading of Tesla shares is also a great indicator of the company’s performance and acceptance in the market and giving up on such a direct relationship is considered to be a wrong move at the current time. The markets seem to be in agreement as Tesla’s shares fell to $300 from $380 following Musk’s announcement regarding the possibility of the company going private, while Securities and Exchange Commission also called in for an immediate meeting to discuss legal matters.
