When I first started [full-time study](https://www.forbes.com/sites/alexadavis/2014/07/10/6-ways-to-cut-the-costs-of-your-study-abroad-program/#58e83f0eec32) at Monash University, I was a bright-eyed first year university student that was ready to work towards a career field that I was passionate about. Of course, isn’t this always the way that the story goes? After all, who puts themselves through three years minimum of a degree if they are not passionate or otherwise drawn to the field that they are going to be studying? My first year was a dream. I was thriving in my classes, I loved all the content being covered, and I was learning so much. And then I hit a wall, and I was unsure how to get around it.

I was unsure how to continue studying when I was getting restless to start seeing the world. I wanted the best of all worlds, and I was unsure if it was even possible. This is where Monash really stepped up and went above and beyond (and it is always why I only ever speak the highest about Monash University). Thankfully, when I saw my guidance counsellor, they sat me down and told me that I had many options available to me. We went through them all, I took some time to think about it and get advice from my family and friends, and then it all made sense. Every step of the way, Monash University had my back.

Here’s the thing about Monash University. Whether it is talking you through [GAMSAT preparation](https://www.gamsat-prep.com/) or [GAMSAT practice tests](https://www.gamsat-prep.com/GAMSATpractice-papers-tests/), or assisting you with navigating your way to finding a viable ongoing solution for a struggle you are facing with your academic journey at university, they are always there to have your back and assist you through it to the best of their ability. For this reason, Monash University genuinely feels like a second home to me. I will always be so grateful for this university for not only encouraging me to find a way when I felt out of depth, but assisting me in successfully navigating my way through it.

At the end of the day, the fact is that I was ready to travel but felt like I also wanted to continue my studies with little to no gap. I have seen so many of my friends who attend different universities than I do struggle with this exact feeling. Monash made it so easy for me. I went to see a guidance counsellor and they brought up the possibility of [abroad study](https://www.theguardian.com/education/2016/nov/09/studying-abroad-get-ready-for-an-overseas-adventure). Suddenly, the whole confusion just went away. I knew that this was promising, and I left that meeting feeling light and excited. I spoke to family and friends, and then boom, I was on that plane to start my semester abroad.

That was the best semester of my entire university experience. Monash genuinely encouraged me to spread my wings both academically and personally, and I will always be grateful. Monash University takes care of its students in every appropriate way, which is one of the most admirable and coveted traits that soon-to-be university students look for when they are sifting through their higher education preferences and options. |
